Welcome to Wesson!

Mayor Alton Shaw

I would like to welcome you to the Town of Wesson, a municipality with a rich past and promising future. We pride ourselves on our quiet way of life, almost non-existent crime rate, wonderful family atmosphere, and community involvement. Established in 1864, Wesson was once the center for cotton fabric production in the South, being the largest growing town between Jackson and New Orleans. As the labor force began moving toward northern territories for better wages, the mills shut down and were later sold for the brick, being dismantled in the 1920’s. Wesson now finds its center in education, boasting Wesson Attendance Center as the areas most sought after K-12 public school, along with Copiah-Lincoln Community College, a renowned two year institution of higher learning. So welcome to what many people have termed a modern day Mayberry, and considering what is going on in the world around us, we take that statement as a complement.

Should you have any additional questions or comments, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 601-643-5221. Thank you, and may God bless.

Sincerely,
Alton Shaw, Mayor
